The Higher Regional Court on Friday confirmed the three and a half year prison sentence for Julian Hessenthaler in the drug case. Now a request for clemency from the Federal President should bring freedom.
Julian Hessenthaler has been in prison for almost two years. On Friday, the mastermind behind the Ibiza video arrived at the end of his judicial journey.
Drug conviction fueled conspiracy theories
After the annulment appeal was previously rejected by the Supreme Court, the 41-year-old was only concerned with the amount of the fine in the appeal procedure at the Higher Regional Court. Hessenthaler was sentenced in March to three and a half years in prison. Not because of the finca video that brought down HC Strache, but because he had sold 1250 grams of cocaine to his former colleague Slaven K. A statement that also gave rise to criticism and conspiracy theories. Attorney Oliver Scherbaum referred to this in his plea: “I have never seen a procedure like this!” The OLG judge made short work of it: “The appeal is not allowed.”
So all Scherbaum can do is ask the Federal President for a pardon or request an ankle bracelet when the time comes. The defense lawyer is also considering filing a complaint with the European Court of Human Rights.
