For a masked robber with a toy gun, ‘the shot failed’. A determined woman from the Waldviertel grabbed the man’s tie and balaclava and carried him to the door. However, the police investigation yielded no results. Now the public is being asked for information.
The young man in Gmünd had imagined it very differently: With a balaclava and a “pistol”, the 1.75 meter tall stranger entered a tobacconist’s shop in the district capital of Waldviertel around 5:30 p.m. He stormed behind the counter and demanded at gunpoint, in accentless German, that the 57-year-old clerk hand over all the money in the till.

From that moment on, the shot failed for the slender young man: it was immediately clear to the experienced employee that it was a toy gun. After vehemently refusing, the fun became too colorful for her – she grabbed the boy by the tie, put him outside the door in the fresh air without resistance and called the police.
