In the scorching heat, six puppies were to be smuggled across the border into Lower Austria. However, thanks to an observant customs officer, the puppy mafia’s ‘smuggling expedition’ was discovered.
Animal drama with a happy ending: At the Hungarian border, local officials have arrested heartless puppy smugglers. As has only just been revealed, an observant customs officer became suspicious at the end of June when a driver from Romania wanted to enter the country in a Mercedes Sprinter. And the woman had to prove that she had the right nose: during the inspection, six puppies were discovered in the trunk of the van!
Puppies only six weeks old
“The baby dachshunds, who were only six weeks old, were locked in the car in the scorching heat and their condition was very bad,” it said. The officer immediately alerted the official veterinarian from Bruck an der Leitha, and the animals were taken to a veterinary clinic in Parndorf, Burgenland.
The sweet sextet, which was to be transported from Romania to France, is now housed at the Brucker animal shelter. In principle, puppies may not be separated from their mother until they are eight weeks old; transport is prohibited until the 15th week. The smuggler was reported.
