On Thursday, a discovery of explosive material and weapons in the basement of an apartment building in Dornbirn (Vorarlberg) caused some concern. The dangerous objects have now been safely removed and destroyed by the defusing service.
On Saturday night, all the excitement was finally over. The defuse service of the Ministry of the Interior transported the explosives and weapons found on Thursday from Langegasse in Dornbirn to a nearby quarry and destroyed the substances in several controlled explosions.
Accidental find in the basement
Relatives of a deceased had called the police on Thursday because they found the dangerous objects during an inspection of the apartment and basement as part of the probate process. Police then cordoned off the area and some residents had to leave their homes overnight.
The deceased was not so inconspicuous after all
According to the director, the man who owned the apartment died in October. He never appeared with the police. But he shouldn’t have been completely inconspicuous. A neighbor told the “Krone” that during his life the deceased had often patrolled the street with the Austrian flag and saluted repeatedly.
No danger to the population
The management took appropriate safety measures for the transport, so that there was no danger to the population during the salvage, transport and destruction. For tactical reasons, the police initially refused to provide information about the size and composition of the materials and weapons found.
