A fire left three generations of a Moosburg family homeless on the fourth Sunday of Advent. But the inhabitants of Carinthia were able to save their lives, for which they are grateful.
“We are talking about a total loss. The house is uninhabitable,” feared Martin Klatzer of the Tigring fire brigade on Sunday evening.
This was confirmed on Monday by Waltraud Dullnigg of the state police headquarters: “The colleagues from the detectives and a fire expert are on the scene. There was significant fire damage. However, the cause has not yet been clarified.”
Fire extinguished with water from pond
Sirens were wailing in most of the region on Sunday evening. 180 emergency services from nine fire brigades went to the large-scale action in the village of Witsch near Moosburg. A fire broke out in the basement of an apartment building. “When the fire brigade arrived, the entire southern front was already on fire. A lot of wood was used,’ says Klatzer, whose numerous colleagues extinguished the fire with water from the nearby pond. “The family sat in the living room. Suddenly they noticed that the balcony was on fire,” said Mayor Herbert Gaggl.
All three generations were at home, except for the father, who is dependent on a wheelchair and was in hospital on Sunday. Five people managed to get to safety and were not injured. “The family is staying with relatives for the time being. People brought tea and quickly rushed to help. It’s nice if everyone helps,” says Gaggl: “The family is hopeful.” The damage would run into the hundreds of thousands of euros.
