Corona forecast: – Experts do not expect an increase during the holiday season

Date:

Experts expect a constant situation with regard to the corona virus in hospitals and new infections around the turn of the year. However, changes during the holidays cannot be completely ruled out.

According to the model computer of the Covid prediction consortium, experience shows that there are more hospital discharges in the run-up to Christmas and the New Year. However, this has already been taken into account in the current forecast, so that the expected occupancy rate in the normal departments changes in waves, but generally stagnates or does not rise any further.

Next prediction after New Year’s Eve
In addition, holiday-related changes in hospital reports cannot be ruled out, which is why the next forecast will not be published until two weeks from now, on 4 January. Before this date, up to 1557 corona-infected people are expected in normal wards across Austria, with an average of 1210 beds, which corresponds exactly to the status of the previous day. The current level of 73 seriously ill Covid patients in intensive care units should also remain about the same for the next two weeks.

An average of 4900 new infections per day
Wastewater monitoring and officially reported case numbers also indicate stagnation of new infections. However, due to the holiday, it is “expected that the reporting of positive tests will be subject to certain irregularities,” according to the experts from Vienna University of Technology, MedUni Vienna and Gesundheit Österreich GmbH (GÖG). An average of almost 4,900 positive tests per day are currently being reported across Austria.
