Heavy rates – WHO chief ‘very concerned’ about the corona situation in China

Date:

The World Health Organization (WHO) has expressed its “very deep concern” about the deteriorating corona infection situation in China. There are increasing reports from the People’s Republic of serious illnesses after being infected with the coronavirus, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday. He stressed that his organization supports China in focusing its efforts on vaccinating the populations most at risk from the virus.

The People’s Republic surprisingly heralded the end of its controversial zero-Covid policy this month after nationwide protests, and the number of infections has been rising ever since.

Crematoriums report a sharp increase in the number of deaths
According to the authorities, it is now impossible to estimate the number of corona cases due to the end of mandatory testing. Most recently, the country’s crematoriums reported a sharp rise in deaths, with no official link to the coronavirus found.

Change in the criteria for registering corona deaths
On Tuesday, the Chinese authorities announced a change in the criteria for registering corona deaths. Accordingly, only those who died directly from respiratory failure due to the virus are counted as corona deaths. Previously, as in other countries around the world, all people who died from a disease during a corona infection were counted as corona deaths. Despite the high number of infections, not a single new death was officially reported in China this Wednesday.
