A fire broke out in the southern Russian region of Saratov as a result of a suspected arson attack at a substitute military district office. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames before they could spread to neighboring apartments, regional news portal Wsgljad-Info reported on Friday. There was no official information about the cause of the fire. However, the media reported that a bottle with gasoline residue was found in the recruitment office.
There was talk of an attack after a number of such incidents had already taken place in the conscription offices during the course of the Russian war against Ukraine. Photos showed that the buildings of the military commissariat were heavily damaged. Security circles reported that the district’s military replacement office was unused. However, it would have been used as a rallying point during the partial mobilization announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin in the autumn.
The fire in Moscow was 200 square meters in size
In Moscow, firefighters had to extinguish a fire in a military building at night. The fire broke out in a garage complex at the military facility in the east of the Russian capital. A dozen fire engines were deployed to extinguish the approximately 200 square meter fire. Little is known about the causes of the fire or the extent of the material damage. According to official information, no injuries were reported.
Since the beginning of the Russian offensive war against Ukraine, there have been a series of attacks on military objects. In particular, the districts’ military replacement offices, responsible for mobilizing the Russians for the war, have been repeatedly targeted by attacks. More than 50 such attacks have been reported since February.
