Avalanche early Sunday afternoon in Sölden in the Tyrolean Ötztal: According to the first reports, a person is said to have been buried. A search is underway with numerous emergency services. Before the holidays, there was a warning about the sometimes great avalanche danger (level 4).
At around 12:40 p.m., the Tyrol control center reported an avalanche on the Tiefenbachferner in Sölden. It is possible that a person was buried by the snow masses in the open area.
Search so far unsuccessful
A major search was launched – helicopters and sniffer dogs are also being deployed. Within the first hour, however, no one was to be found. In general, it is unclear whether anyone was caught by the avalanche, a police spokesman said when asked by “Krone”.
Partial hazard level 4 in Tyrol
In the run-up to the Christmas holidays, the avalanche warning service had warned of avalanche danger. Also on Christmas Day, the experts called on all winter sports enthusiasts to be extra careful in open terrain.
Especially in the western regions of the state, level 4 of the five-part scale prevails.
