Kiev contradicts US: – “China does not want to supply arms to Russia”

Date:

The United States has been warning for days about possible arms shipments from China to the Russian army. The warnings from Washington worried many European politicians. EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said supplying arms to Russia would represent a “red line” from the EU’s point of view. In Kiev itself, people are more relaxed. The chief of the Ukrainian secret service, Kyrylo Budanov, currently sees no signs of possible Chinese arms shipments.

“At this point, I don’t believe China will agree to hand over weapons to Russia,” Budanov said in an interview with US radio station Voice of America on Monday. “I don’t see any signs of such things even being discussed.”

“Currently, only Iran seriously supplies weapons”
When asked about possible other supporters of Moscow, the intelligence chief added: “Almost the only country that is more or less seriously supplying weapons at the moment is Iran.” According to “Voice of America”, the interview was conducted in Ukrainian last Saturday.

US intelligence chief William Burns said over the weekend that Washington was “convinced” that Beijing was considering arms sales to Russia for the war in Ukraine. China is considering supplying drones and munitions, according to a Wall Street Journal report. Beijing has so far denied plans to sell arms to Russia.

Skepticism about China’s peace plan
The peace plan for Ukraine presented by Beijing is also viewed with great skepticism. US President Joe Biden said in a televised interview last week, “Russian President Vladimir Putin applauds this, then how can the plan be good?” If China’s plan is implemented, it would benefit no one but Russia.
