Winter storm Elliot has caused about 50 deaths in the United States of America this Christmas. In addition, has brought heavy snowfall and hurricane-force winds across much of the country. It’s the coldest Christmas Americans have experienced in years.
The most damaged area is southwestern New York, about 27 bodies were found there. These have been found in homes, vehicles and on the street. In Buffalo, despite being used to the cold, they had to close the airport due to snowfall.
Other states have also fallen victim to Elliot, with several fatalities: Colorado, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Wisconsin.
About 60% of the population, more than 200 million people, are affected by the effects of the hurricaneand New York Governor Kathy Hochul has said it is the “most destructive” hurricane she recalls and has asked the public not to use the roads.
Some states have record numbers for temperature drops; New York has dropped to 10.5 degrees below zero, a temperature it hasn’t seen since 1872.
