Following the deadly bombings on the city of Kharkov, near the border (see video above), Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is calling for the right to use Western weapons against Russian territory.
Many foreign politicians and organizations expressed their condolences and condemned Russia, Zelensky said in his video address on Sunday. “It is important that this conviction leads to appropriate consequences.”
Since Thursday, more than twenty people have been killed by Russian bombings in Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine. Ukraine needs more air defense, Zelensky said. And they need the right to fire their foreign weapons on Russian soil.
“We see every concentration point of Russian troops. We know all the areas where Russian missiles and fighter jets are being launched,” he said. It is a political decision to allow the destruction of these forces before attacking Ukraine. “A decision that has to be made.”
The delivery of the F-16 must be accelerated
It is also necessary to accelerate the promised delivery of US F-16 fighter jets to increase pressure on the Russian front, Zelensky warned. Countries such as the Netherlands and Denmark are handing over these aircraft to Ukraine.
Ukrainian pilots have undergone training for this type of aircraft. According to unofficial information, the first F-16s are expected in Ukraine in a few weeks. Ukraine has been defending a Russian invasion for more than two years. The country is currently lagging behind militarily, which is partly due to the months-long cessation of Western arms aid.
