At Christmas, the winter season in the Tyrolean ski areas came into full swing. Which in turn means that numerous accidents happen on the slopes. In addition to the tragedy in the Zillertal, in which a twelve-year-old girl died on holiday, there were also fatal collisions elsewhere with numerous injuries.
In the Bergeralm ski area in the Wipptal valley, there was a collision between a resident (42) and a ten-year-old boy on the Stefanitag shortly before 10:30 am. After the crash, the unknown child stopped for a moment, but then continued driving. The woman suffered serious injuries to her left leg and foot in the collision. After first aid from the slope rescue service at the scene of the accident, the seriously injured person was taken to the mountain station with a Skidoo and from there flown by helicopter to the regional hospital in Hall.
Snowboarder crashes into skiers
Around the same time there was also a crash in the Ausserfern: In Bichlbach, a snowboarder (44) from Belgium collided with a 15-year-old skier. The Belgian sustained serious injuries. He was taken by helicopter to Reutte district hospital. The local youth escaped with a fright and was unharmed.
Winter athletes ended up on the operating table
There was also a serious collision between two snowboarders in Sölden in the Ötztal. One of those involved stopped for a moment, but then fled without leaving his personal details. The other winter sportsman, a 47-year-old German, sustained such serious injuries to his shoulder that he had to undergo surgery.
Pushed off and crashed into the wall
In the Zillertal, a 21-year-old German woman was pushed aside on Monday while skiing by an unknown winter sportsman, causing her to fall off the edge of the slope. The young woman then crashed into a stone wall, police said. The seriously injured woman was first treated by the slope rescue service and then flown by emergency helicopter to the Innsbruck clinic.
