At a free level crossing in Carinthia, a collision happened on Tuesday morning between a vehicle and an ÖBB passenger train. The route was closed for about 45 minutes.

The 56-year-old driver from the Völkermarkt district of Loibach in the municipality of Bleiburg had bad luck. As ÖBB spokesperson Herbert Hofer confirms, there was an accident at a level crossing around 9 a.m.: “Despite stop signals and the Andrew’s Cross, a collision occurred between a car and a passenger train from Slovenia at the crossing.” police, the 56-year-olds overlooked the approaching train. “The man’s car was caught at the level of the left back door when crossing the intersection and turned once on its own axis,” the police said.

The route, which is in principle only used by two trains per day, was closed until 10 a.m. “The incident has no further consequences for train traffic,” says Hofer.
