After a knife attack on a woman in Vöcklabruck last Wednesday, the Linz public prosecutor’s office has dropped the case against a female officer. The victim called the emergency number eight minutes before the attack and was advised by the police officer to report the incident. “The officer has not committed any criminal offenses,” Ulrike Breiteneder, spokeswoman for the Linz public prosecutor’s office, said Tuesday as part of the press conference about the Halloween riots.
State Police Director Andreas Pilsl explained that the case is still being looked at from a disciplinary point of view. There are currently no plans to redeploy the officer for emergency calls.

The suspect was taken into custody on Friday. The 27-year-old stabbed and injured his wife last Wednesday at the gym where she works in Vöcklabruck. The perpetrator was arrested shortly afterwards.
Shortly before the attack, the woman called 911 because she saw her husband, who would be in an addiction clinic, standing in the parking lot. She felt threatened after he allegedly sent her questionable chat messages a few days earlier. When she called, she was advised to file a complaint.

Gym guests came to her aid and attacked the attacker with dumbbells. Finally, he let go of her and fled. According to the police, the 27-year-old was drunk and using drugs. The motive for the crime was apparently jealousy.
