As expected, the Kremlin rejects Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s peace plan and demands recognition of the “new reality”. The Russian government points out that the four Ukrainian regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhia have been annexed by Russia. Of course, none of the regions is completely under the control of the Russian army.
Zelenskyj insists on restoring the territorial unity of Ukraine and rejects any territorial transfer. Most recently, he asked Indian President Narendra Modi, who will hold the next G20 presidency, for help in implementing a “peace formula” for Ukraine. In November, he presented a ten-point peace plan to the group of the top 20 industrialized and emerging countries.
Zelenskyj: Full deductions, reparations, war crimes trials
Selenskyj had previously received full support for his peace ideas from French head of state Emmanuel Macron. These include a complete withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine, including the Black Sea peninsula of Crimea, which has been annexed since 2014. In addition, there are reparations, the legal settlement of war crimes and security guarantees from the West for Ukraine.
Lavrov: “Our point is very simple: fulfill our proposals”
Even before the Kremlin’s Njet referring to accepting the “new reality” in Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov had unequivocally commented on Zelenskyy’s proposals: “Our proposals for demilitarization and denazification of the regime controlled areas are very familiar to the enemy,” he said. “The point is very simple: fulfill them for your own good. Otherwise, the question will be answered by the Russian army.”
Putin: Russia ready for negotiations, Ukraine and West not
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Sunday that Russia is ready to negotiate with all parties involved in the conflict. However, the leaders in Kiev and their Western supporters have refused to hold talks. Ukraine immediately contradicted this.
