Since Monday, April 1, corona tests have also been charged to doctors. The federal government will no longer bear the costs for this. However, a new solution could be presented in about two weeks.
The chairman of the conference of social insurers, Peter Lehner, announced this on Tuesday. Details are not yet known, but “a very constructive and creative way has been found (…).” Test costs must be covered again, at least for high-risk patients. We are currently “very fortunate” that there are virtually no Covid cases.
The insurance will reimburse five euros
As reported, the Ministry of Health has allowed the relevant regulation to expire on April 1. That is why patients currently have to pay the costs of a test themselves, with the insurance company reimbursing five euros. Until the end of March, corona tests for suspected cases were free at ordinations. To receive the antiviral drug Paxlovid, a positive test is required. Without such a result, patients will not receive Paxlovid.
The Ministry of Health said last week that all services in the practice area would be covered by the health insurer. “Only during the pandemic were services exceptionally funded by the federal government.” Social security and the medical association should therefore reach an agreement.
