Johannes Kopf, head of the employment service, describes the current situation in Austria in drastic terms: The unemployment trend is currently “particularly bad,” the AMS boss said, looking at the figures from the end of March. The “Krone” provides insight into which sectors and states are particularly affected and why more and more academics cannot find work.
“The number of people registered with the AMS as unemployed or in training at the end of March 2024 was almost 36,000 people, or about eleven percent higher than the same day the year before. “This is a particularly bad development for a deadline that fell on Easter Sunday this year, which is generally good for employment,” Kopf said.
