Cold windows for snowmaking are getting smaller and smaller
Werfenweng is blessed with more than 1000 meters above sea level in the valley. Still, the weather causes problems: “The cold window in which you can make snow is getting smaller and smaller: we used to have three weeks in the preseason, now it’s only a handful of days “, explains Ehrensberger.
At least until the beginning of next week, temperatures above freezing are predicted even for the nights. Especially during the Christmas holidays, which are so important for winter tourism. “It is also not good if there is no snow in the city of Salzburg. The people of Salzburg prefer to cycle,” Ehrensberger fears.
These are concerns that other small ski areas would like to have: Zinkenlifte, Karkogel, Postalm and Heutal-Unken have had to close their doors again. Or not unlocked at all.
