Customs investigators have discovered and seized 3.5 tons of cocaine in the port of Hamburg. “The investigation into the people behind the attacks is in full swing,” said deputy head of the Hamburg customs investigation agency, Matthias Virmond, on Thursday.
Accordingly, just a month ago, on Nov. 29, officials seized over two tons of cocaine in a container from Ecuador among canned tuna (pictured below). Just a few days later, on December 1, they found more than a ton and a half of cocaine in two containers from Brazil, loaded with bags of metal granules.
Drugs worth 100 million euros
“The seizures of these two large quantities provide further evidence of the continued high pressure of the cocaine supply to Europe,” Virmond said. The drugs would be worth at least 100 million euros.
At the end of January, officials in the port of Hamburg found the largest amount of drugs of the year in a container of bananas from Ecuador: a whopping 2.6 tons. In total, customs found about 9.5 tons of cocaine this year – significantly less than the record amount of 19 tons in 2021.
