An extremely unusual incident took place between Dornbirn and Schwarzach in Vorarlberg on Wednesday evening. A 70-year-old train driver drove onto a platform and then drove her car almost two kilometers along the track towards Schwarzach. Fortunately, the railway line was immediately closed because a train had already entered.
A 70-year-old motorist drove onto the platform of Haselstauden train station in Bachgasse in Dornbirn at 10:45 pm on Wednesday and fell 76 centimeters from the platform onto the track. The woman did not get out of the car there, but accelerated. So she continued down the trail for about 6,000 feet. She was then stopped at Schwarzach train station by police officers who had already been warned.
Immediate track closure started
Fortunately, the police received a corresponding report about a car on the tracks via an emergency call at 10:45 p.m. It was therefore immediately decided to close the track, which narrowly prevented a collision between the car and a train towards Bregenz that was ready to depart in Dornbirn.
The driver received a shock, but no one was injured. An alcohol test was negative. Because the woman was not time and place oriented and was overtired, her driver’s license was temporarily confiscated. The car, which was subsequently no longer drivable, suffered significant damage to the underside. The track between Haselstauden station and Schwarzach station suffered various damage of unknown extent.
