Positions attacked – Kiev claims: “50 Russian soldiers liquidated”

Date:

Ukrainian forces say they attacked Russian bases near the industrial and port city of Berdyansk in the southeast of the country. About 50 Russian soldiers were “liquidated”, the General Staff in Kiev announced on Thursday. Several media previously reported that Russia attacked Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with a total of more than 120 missiles on Thursday night.

The army in Kiev has not provided any information about the weapon systems used to attack Berdyansk. The information could not be independently verified.

Heavy Russian attacks
The city on the Sea of Azov is located almost 100 kilometers behind the current front lines. On Thursday, Ukraine was attacked by missiles from Russia in several regions far to the west of the country.

Kiev wants to participate in missile tests in Belarus
After the discovery of a Ukrainian missile on Belarusian territory, the Ministry of Defense in Kiev offered to cooperate in the investigation of the incident. A statement from the ministry released Thursday evening said the agency was ready for an “objective investigation into the incident”. State media in the Belarusian capital Minsk had reported that a missile launched by the S-300 air defense system had fallen on Belarusian territory on Thursday morning.

Kiev pointed out that Ukraine was attacked by a wave of Russian cruise missiles on Thursday. “Therefore, a provocation by the terrorist state of Russia cannot be ruled out, which has chosen a flight path for its cruise missiles in a way that provokes their launch into the airspace over Belarus,” it said. That would be a similar incident to the one in November when Polish territory was hit.

Belarus not directly involved in combat operations
Belarusian ancient ruler Alexander Lukashenko was made aware of the incident. Shortly afterwards, the Ukrainian ambassador in Minsk was summoned to the Foreign Ministry, where he handed over a note of protest to the incident. Belarus is not directly involved in hostilities in Ukraine. However, Lukashenko has given Russian troops the military bases in the country for attacks on Ukraine. Concerns are growing in Ukraine that Russia could launch another attack from Belarus. Such a discovery of a missile could be used by Belarus and Russia as an excuse to take action from there.

Putin inaugurated new warships
Meanwhile, in a video message ceremony in Moscow on Thursday, President Vladimir Putin inaugurated several new warships, including a submarine capable of firing nuclear missiles. Putin announced the production of more ships and praised the capabilities of the Russian navy.
