Politics as it should be: MPs from the ÖVP, SPÖ, Greens and NEOS are currently sponsoring 183 people imprisoned in Iran who are currently facing the death penalty in connection with the protests.
One of those affected is Hesam Mousavi. After being tortured in his home country to force a confession to an alleged attempted bomb attack, the climbing instructor is now facing the death penalty. “According to online information, after his arrest at the city market of Isfahan, he remains in jail in the city of Shiraz, where his family is unwilling to discuss his whereabouts under pressure from the regime,” explains the St. Pöltner Bundes- und Municipal. council member Florian Krumböck, who in turn took on the sponsorship of the young Iranian.
Admittedly, such sponsorship cannot and will not get those affected straight out of prison. International attention – the parliamentarians agree – but in any case increases the chance of diplomatic help. Specifically, Krumböck is now writing a letter to the Iranian ambassador in Austria, asking for information about the detainee’s current situation.
