A spokesman for the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, said in a statement that a court led by the Myanmar (Burma) military delivered its final verdicts against the detained president this Friday. win myint and State Councilor Aung San Suu Kyi, closing a series of “purely politically motivated” trials over the past 13 months.
“These trials were carried out without respect for due process or due judicial guarantees and are a clear attempt to exclude democratically elected leaders from political life,” the spokesperson stressed.

He added that the EU continues to defend an authentic dialogue in the countryinvolving Suu Kyi, the National League for Democracy, the Government of National Unity, civil society and all other relevant stakeholders in Myanmar to “pave the way out of the deep crisis in the country and restore the path to democracy”.
The EU has also expressed deep concern about the large number of people arbitrarily detained and repeated his urgent appeal to the immediate and unconditional release of all political prisoners.
