Euskadi’s GDP has grown by 1.8% in 2023

Employment, measured as full-time jobs, increased by 1.7% over the year, creating approximately 16,000 jobs.

The economy grew last year 1.8% in Euskadi a tenth more than the Basque government had expected, and the employment 1.7%which implies the creation of some 16,000 jobs.

This data was provided after Basque gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 1.6% in the last three months of last year compared to the same period in 2022 and by 0.4% compared to the previous quarter.

This growth of Euskadi’s GDP improves the trend of recent months of the slowdown in economic activity growth in the autonomous community, which started the year with an annual increase of 2.3%.

Following this GDP growth in the first three months of the year compared to the same period in 2022, interannual growth was 1.5% in the second quarter and 1.6% in the third quarter.

The improvement in the evolution in these last three months of the year is even more noticeable in the quarterly evolution. In the last quarter of 2023, Euskadi’s GDP increased by 0.4%.

According to the latest estimates from the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Basque Government for this last quarter of the year, GDP would grow by 1.4% and for the whole year by 1.7%.

For part-time jobs, there were 3,400 more jobs in the first three months last year than between January and March 2022; 14,270 in the second quarter and 15,326 in the third. At the end of the year the increase was approximately 16,000 jobs.
