At least that applies to the Postalm in the Salzburger Tennengau: boss Linus Pilar is trembling through the thaw for the survival of his family-friendly ski area. The weather forecast for January also looks gloomy.
Possible record temperatures on New Year’s Eve: For ski resorts close to the city, such as the one in Werfenweng, this is a nightmare, they have an extremely difficult time with the weather – reported the “Krone”.
Some fight to survive. This also applies to the Postalm in the north of Tennengau. The ski school with beginner courses is fully booked in the family-friendly winter park. But only the ski school lift and the people mover are open. This is too little.
“Tense situation”
“The situation is tense,” says owner and boss Linus Pilar. The 48-year-old took over the company in 2016 with a business partner and saved it from bankruptcy.
But now the Linz business economists are also threatened by difficult times. Ice cold problem: On the Postalm, snow cannot and should not be used as much as elsewhere. “Large ski areas install a 60 centimeter thick layer of artificial snow, with us that is only ten centimeters.”
The Christmas business, which accounts for a third of the total turnover, went bankrupt. Cross-country skiing, ski touring? Currently also not possible. However, the basic costs for the ground lease (land, road) continue. That has already had consequences.
Eight employees have resigned
“Unfortunately, I had to say goodbye to eight employees on December 22. This is how we last until the end of January. But if there is no snow by then, it will be very tight,” Pilar fears to survive. Also because the rough weather forecast for January does not promise one thing at the moment: cold and precipitation.
