Four suspected human skulls have been discovered at Mexico’s Querétaro International Airport that will be shipped to the United States. The skulls of various sizes were wrapped in aluminum and cling film in a box that was stored at the airport by a courier service.
The Guardia Nacional tweeted an x-ray of the package and a photo showing two skulls removed from their packaging. The box was said to have been shipped from Apatzingán, Michoacán, to an address in the US city of Manning, South Carolina.
Found during on-site inspection
Authorities stumbled upon the find when they conducted random checks for drugs, weapons and cash at the courier service at the airport, about 200 kilometers north of the capital Mexico City. The shipment was not accompanied by any provenance documentation or a license to export human remains.
Nothing was known about the age of the bones, the identity of the dead, or the whereabouts of other body parts. The Guardia Nacional announced investigations.
