Benedict XVI dead – Ratzinger’s will: “Don’t be confused”

Date:

In his last letter, Benedict XVI wrote. calls on Christians to remain steadfast in the faith. “Keep believing! Don’t get confused! (…) Jesus Christ really is the way, the truth and the life – and the Church, with all her shortcomings, is really his body,” said Benedict in the book “Nothing but the Truth”, which his private secretary, Archbishop Georg Gänswein, co-wrote with the author Saverio Gaeta.

The work will be published at the beginning of January by the Italian publisher Piemme and is regarded as the spiritual testament of Joseph Ratzinger. It was founded by Benedict XVI. written in the summer of 2006 and never changed. It is a simple text written in German with just over 4,000 keystrokes, published by the Vatican on Saturday evening.

“Apparent Certainties”
“It often seems that science – on the one hand the natural sciences, on the other hand historical research (especially the exegesis of the Holy Scriptures) – has irrefutable insights to demonstrate that are contrary to the Catholic faith. I was of witnessed the changes in natural science from afar and have seen how apparent certainties melted away against faith, turned out not to be science but philosophical interpretations that seemed only to belong to science,” emphasized Benedikt.

“At this late hour of my life, when I look back at the decades I’ve been through, the first thing I see is how much I owe. Above all, I thank God himself, the giver of all good gifts, who gave me life and led me through many trials; picked me up again and again when I started to slide, gave me the light of his face again and again,” Benedict wrote.

From the bottom of his heart he thanks God for the many friends, for the co-workers at all stages of his journey, for the teachers and students. “I want to thank the Lord for the beautiful homeland in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps, where I have always been able to see the glory of the Creator Himself shining. I thank the people of my homeland for allowing me to experience the beauty of faith again and again. I pray that our country will remain a country of faith and I ask you, dear compatriots: do not be distracted from faith. Finally, I thank God for all the beautiful things I have experienced during the different stages of my journey, but especially in Rome and Italy, which has become my second home,” said the pope emeritus.
