The German fireworks manufacturer Weco has apologized for misogynistic slogans in New Year’s crackers. We regret that the statements have been scattered and find the content presented neither funny nor tasteful nor up-to-date. The musician Jan Delay was indignant in advance about the alleged jokes on the notes.
Delay wrote that he was speechless at the misogyny. The notes included violence against women. Numerous other Twitter users then posted their own photos with similar cracker slogans and also expressed criticism.
“We reject discrimination in any form!”
“We hereby expressly apologize to anyone who feels offended or offended by the lyrics,” the company statement said. “We reject discrimination in any form!”
One faced “the same problem” five years ago. At the time, “all textual content was subject to extensive revision”. Crackers with such content were subsequently not included in the production batches that were produced.
Probably delivered older batches
However, products from older production batches may have only recently been sold to end users. This is common because fireworks do not have an expiration date and production batches are never sold completely in one year, but gradually over a longer period of time.
In 2020 and 2021 there were no fireworks sales in Germany due to the corona pandemic.
