Unemployment data for December 2022 in the Basque Country and Navarre

Compared to December last year, there are 4,047 fewer unemployed in the Basque Country and 416 fewer in Navarre. In Spain, there were 2,837,653 unemployed at the end of the year, the lowest number since 2007.

The Basque Autonomous Community (CAV) ended 2022 with 110,798 unemployed, 3.52% less than in 2021, according to data provided today by the Ministry of Labour. In Navarre, they have registered 31,610 unemployed, 1.30% less than the previous year.

With regard to the monthly variation, from November to December, the number of registered unemployed in the BAC increased by 88 people. In Navarre, unemployment has risen by 117 people.

However, related to closing of 2021 the number of unemployed fell in both Euskadi (4047) and Navarre (416).

On an annual basis there are 2,517 fewer unemployed Biscay (-3.88%), 1116 less inside Guipuzkoa (-3.65%) and 414 less in alava (-2.13%). Álava and Bizkaia also registered monthly decreases in December with 256 and 7 fewer unemployed respectively. In Gipuzkoa, on the other hand, unemployment increased by 351 people (+1.21%).

In the Spanish state at the end of the year there were 2,837,653 unemployed, the lowest figure since 2007. From November to December, unemployment fell by 43,727 in December (-1.52%). For its part, the interannual rate has fallen by 8.64%.

Hiring

In December, 57,989 contracts were signed Basque countryof which 21.29% are fixed, totaling 12,345. In the whole of 2022, 199,995 permanent contracts were signed, 148.3% more than in 2021.

However, as a whole, contracts in December in the Basque Country were down by 10.88% (-7,079 contracts) compared to the previous month and by 22.39% (-16,727 contracts) compared to the last month of 2021.

In Navarre A total of 22,555 contracts were signed in December, of which 4,331 for an indefinite period. In the past month, contracting decreased by 7.74% (1,866 contracts) and compared to December last year the decrease was 22.82% (6,582 contracts).

When one year has passed since the entry into force of the labor reform, there are 2.3 million people with a permanent contract in the Spanish state. In Euskadi the increase was 148.3%.

Membership

Basque country 2022 ended with 14,055 members (1.41%) more in social security than a year ago, reaching 994,077 registered. Membership has moderated growth, however, as only 822 more were registered in December than in November in the Basque Country, representing a slight increase of 0.08%.

Annual membership has grown by 4,301 people Navarre1.45% more than in December 2021, to 299,966. In contrast, the number of social security affiliations in Navarra fell by 2,319 workers in December, 0.77% less than in the previous month.

Assessment of the governments of the Basque Country and Navarre

The Second Deputy Hendakari and Minister of Labor and Employment of the Basque Government, Idoia Mendia, He stressed that the Basque Country is “much more solid to face the new year and any new unforeseen event”. The Provincial administrationFor its part, it considers that “2022 has been a year of growth and stability for employment in Navarre with 73,137 permanent contracts, double that of 2021” and with unemployment falling, with 416 fewer unemployed than in 2021, despite a slight decrease in the figures in December.

In a statement, the Navarrese director assures that “the labor market will remain stable for the time being” and that the assessment is therefore positive. However, he stressed that “it is convenient to flee from complacency, work continues to create employment and reduce unemployment rates”.
