The Secretary of State for Employment, Joaquín Pérez Rey, believes that it is an “absolutely unacceptable practice that violates people’s dignity” to ask an applicant to remain in his underwear.
“The recruitment mechanisms for employment cannot achieve such a serious invasion of privacy and dignity,” Pérez Rey said at the strike press conference, after being asked about the case of recruitment company Meccti, which required Kuwait Airways flight attendant candidates to their underwear.
Pérez Rey explained that the Labor Inspectorate has opened an ex officio investigation following a video published on social networks by one of the women who attended the selection process.
According to the Department of Labor, there is no report of any of those affected reporting the incident through formal channels.
The Inspectorate also assesses whether the offenses may be punishable in order to bring them to the attention of the Public Prosecution Service in that case.
