The first infections with the corona variant XBB.1.5 recently discovered in China have been reported from Pakistan. The government has instructed the authorities to tighten controls at airports and border crossings. The country follows many other countries such as Japan, USA, Israel and Spain.
The Pakistani health authorities are concerned about reports of the first infection reports with the corona variant XBB.1.5. Representatives of the National Institute assume that the variant came to Pakistan via China. The two countries maintain intensive economic relations with each other.
No more restrictions
According to a hospital director, the corona outbreak in China may have already affected 70 percent of the population in Shanghai, but life in Pakistan has returned to normal. Restrictions have been removed. No deaths from Covid-19 have been reported in the past 25 days, according to the Ministry of Health. So far, more than 1.5 million infections and more than 30,000 deaths have been recorded in the country (out of a population of about 225.2 million). Due to the new infections, authorities have now been instructed to tighten controls at airports and border crossings.
Spain: 3G rule for Chinese
The country thus joins many other countries such as Japan, the US, Israel, Morocco – this government banned all entry from China – and also European countries such as France, Spain and Great Britain. In Spain, the well-known 3G rule applies again to travelers from China: vaccinated, recovered or tested. Flight crew and children under the age of twelve are exempt. Anyone who has a body temperature of more than 37.5 degrees upon entering the country must undergo a health test and possibly a corona test. The region in question decides on any insulation obligation.
No tourist visa in China
China itself has not issued tourist visas for nearly three years due to the pandemic. When entering Germany from abroad, a quarantine obligation still applies until January 8. Afterwards, visitors must still submit a negative corona test that is not older than 48 hours.
