The Islamophobic and anti-immigrant group Stram Kurs (Strammer Course) caused the stumbling block with their rallies. These called counter-protesters to the plan. Three people were injured in Norrköping on Sunday after warning shots bounced off. They were taken to hospital and detained as a precaution.
Molotov cocktails and shouts of “Allahu Akbar” in Malmo
In Malmö, vehicles and garbage cans were set on fire. A bus caught fire after a “flaming object” was thrown inside. Police officers were also pelted by rioters with Molotov cocktails and stones. According to eyewitnesses, cries of “Allahu Akbar” were also heard.
The right-wing extremist politician Rasmus Paludan had caused the riots with his demonstrations: he called for demonstrations in several cities and announced that he also wanted to burn the Holy Scriptures of Islam. Young Muslim men saw this as an opportunity for the brutal riots.
