Wounded in the hotel – Russian sent shrapnel to Macron

Date:

Former Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin sent shrapnel to French President Emmanuel Macron. Rogozin said he was hit by shrapnel from a French howitzer in Ukraine.

Rogozin published the letter with the shrapnel in the Telegram online service. “In this envelope, which accompanies my letter, you see a fragment of a shell from a French 155 mm artillery unit Caesar. It pierced my right shoulder and lodged in the fifth cervical vertebra, just a millimeter away from my death or disability,” the former Russian deputy prime minister and former head of the Roscosmos space agency wrote.

Work meeting or party?
According to Rogozin, he was hit by shrapnel in December during a “work meeting” at a hotel restaurant in Donetsk. He is said to have been a regular visitor to the hotel when he was in the region Moscow declared annexed in September. However, the statement of the working meeting contradicts the reporting of the Russian state broadcaster Rossija 24, which reported at the time that Rogozin had celebrated his 59th birthday with guests and musicians. The broadcaster showed footage believed to be of the building, showing a partially destroyed roof and debris lying around.

Ambassador to hand over Macron’s mail
The French ambassador in Moscow, Pierre Levy, must forward the shrapnel and accompanying letter to French President Emmanuel Macron. That said the former boss and politician of Roskosmos on Wednesday. Rogozin is known for his support for the Russian offensive war in Ukraine.
