Tragic accident Wednesday in Scheifling: A 59-year-old farmer was so badly injured in a forest accident that he died on the spot. Shortly before that, a forest accident had already happened in southern Styria – a 69-year-old survived with serious injuries.

Together with his wife (54), the 59-year-old farmer was working on woodworking in his own forest area in the municipality of Scheifling on Wednesday around 3 p.m. when the accident happened. The man was pushed against a tree by a birch tree hanging from a tractor cable winch and was crushed in the head and chest. His wife immediately made an emergency call. The couple’s son managed to free his father from his imprisoned situation.

The arriving rescuers carried out initial measures and resuscitation attempts. However, this was to no avail, the man had suffered such serious head injuries that he died on the spot. The body was taken away by the Pöls mountain rescue service and the Scheifling volunteer fire brigade, which was deployed with a total of 29 troops. The next of kin were taken care of by Murau’s crisis intervention team.

Also forest accident in the Leibnitz district
Just over an hour before this fatal accident, a similar forest accident had occurred in Sankt Andrä/Höch. A 69-year-old pensioner from the district of Leibnitz was hit in the knee by a tree trunk while moving with a tractor cable winch. The pensioner fell and came to rest in the stream bed. He suffered serious injuries in the area of ​​his right knee and, after first aid from the rescue service and the emergency doctor, was rescued from the stream by the St. Andrä/Höch volunteer fire brigade and taken to the LKH Südsteiermark in Wagna. .
