During training, a trainer from Styria killed a colleague in a tragic accident. The project report is now with the senior public prosecutor’s office.
As reported, a successful search ended in a tragic accident in mid-September. The officials wanted to practice for the rest of the day at the headquarters of the Styrian state police after the operation. It then happened during the tactical training: the experienced trainer had collected the pistols of the trainees, but forgot to exchange his service weapon for a practice weapon (red weapon).
He then showed how to behave when looking for a dangerous perpetrator – and shot a young colleague (27) in the back at close range. Despite immediate first aid measures, there was no rescue for him.
Project reporting to the senior public prosecutor’s office
The investigations by the Graz prosecutor’s office have already been completed, “a project report was forwarded to the senior prosecutor’s office in Graz in mid-December,” said the responsible media office in response to a request from “Krone”.
This is also confirmed by Erich Leitner, the spokesperson for the main prosecutor’s office of Graz: “The investigation process is still ongoing. The ministry will also be involved.” So it won’t be long before it is clear whether there will be an indictment – which is to be expected.
