A man has died in a devastating fire in Vienna-Margarten. A total of five residents were evacuated by the fire service, including a woman with a small baby.
According to a spokesman, the fire service was alerted around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The fire brigade fought the apartment fire with two extinguishing lines and found the unconscious resident during the extinguishing work. The man was immediately brought to safety via the stairwell. The paramedics then started CPR. However, there was no chance of survival for the man, said a spokesman for the rescue service.
Mother rescued with her baby
The rescue was deployed with a special task force. A 33-year-old mother and her several-month-old baby from the apartment building and a 33-year-old man were examined at the scene with suspected smoke inhalation. However, none of the victims needed to be transported to hospital.
Firefighters’ efforts ended just before midnight. Information about the cause of the fire is not yet known. The investigation is ongoing.
