Check airlines – mandatory test for travelers to China from Saturday

Date:

The announced corona test obligation for travelers from China will take effect on Saturday. This was announced by the Department of Health on Epiphany. As reported, passengers from the People’s Republic of China must submit a negative PCR test before departure to Austria.

The negative PCR test to be submitted must not be older than 48 hours, it says. The airlines are responsible for checking the evidence and have already been informed. As the Ministry of Health has announced, the next flight from China will land in Vienna on Monday. Health Minister Johannes Rauch (Greens) was satisfied with the rapid implementation, but is not concerned about a deterioration of the corona situation in Austria. In contrast to China, there is broad immunity against the omicron variant in Austria, which also dominates in China.

EU countries agreed only on recommendation
Rauch had announced the obligation to test on Thursday for the next week. He endorsed the decisions of several EU governments, including Germany. Although health experts from the 27 EU countries could not agree on a mandatory test on Wednesday evening, they strongly recommended it, as well as the wearing of an FFP2 mask on board aircraft from China.

Japan: 8.3 percent of Chinese travelers positive
In Japan, where all travelers from China have been tested since last Friday, 8.3 percent of arrivals have tested positive for the corona virus since the tightened border controls. A total of 408 of 4,895 passengers on direct flights from China and travelers who had been in China in the past seven days at Japanese airports from Dec. 30 to Jan. 5 had a positive result, the Tokyo Ministry of Health announced.
