An 82-year-old pensioner was rescued from Schneeberg in Lower Austria on Friday night. The local man climbed up from the Weichtalhaus via the Ferdinand-Mayr-Weg in the direction of the Kienthalerhütte around 4 p.m.
In the dark he lost his way and ended up in the nearby Weichtalklamm, the Reichenau mountain rescue service reported in a broadcast. The emergency services found the unharmed but completely exhausted Lower Austrian under a forest road. He was taken to hospital.
The cabin crew raised the alarm
The team in the hut that had been notified of his planned arrival had contacted the pensioner by telephone when he had not arrived at the shelter after several hours. As a result, the mountain rescue service was alerted. The helpers took the 82-year-old on a mountain stretcher to a rescue vehicle waiting on the forest road before he was handed over to the rescue service and taken to hospital.
