Paramedics stay with the injured despite the hail of bombs

Date:

In times of war, both sides of the conflict like to portray soldiers as heroes who often fight impressively for their country. Truly heroic scenes often play out unnoticed by the public – now a video from Kharkiv, Ukraine, documents such a story. Despite the bombs, an ambulance brother stays inside next to an injured woman.

The video’s explosiveness is hard to beat: it shows a rescue team treating a woman injured by shrapnel shortly after a Russian bomb attack on Ukraine’s second-largest city.

“Stay down!”
Suddenly, however, missile strikes can be heard again and the people standing around it flee to the nearest bomb shelter. However, a paramedic continues to help the woman: “Stay down”, he shouts to her, holding her hand and not leaving her alone in the chaos. At that moment, even Ukrainian soldiers flee into the house next to them.

The situation for those involved was relatively mild, according to Ukrainian media, but at least five people were killed and 13 others injured in the renewed heavy attack on the city. The paramedic is now respected by the population as a “true hero of the war”.

Forbidden “Double Tap” attack
Russia is said to have used a so-called double tap strategy that had already been tested in Syria – a simple but devastating principle. First, an attack from the air is carried out. Then the armed forces wait for rescuers, ambulances and other helpers to arrive before dropping bombs from the sky again.

This not only greatly increases the number of casualties, but also greatly wears out the opponent. However, this type of air raid is rightly considered a war crime.

Selenskyj pushes for more weapons
Ukraine is now demanding more aid from abroad – it urgently needs heavy weapons, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said. “Those who have guns and are holding them back should know that the fate of this battle also depends on them,” the president said in a video address.
