Dog owners in the municipality of Pirching amtraubenberg in southeastern Styria have been warned: in the Manning district, two dogs have been poisoned with poisoned bait in recent days, and a chihuahua has died. The police assume the same perpetrator and do not rule out further attacks.
The first incident took place on Good Friday when a 62-year-old mixed herder swallowed a poisoned bait thrown over the fence of the fenced property. After the dog started vomiting and refused to eat, the vet determined a liver value that was so high that poisoning can be assumed. The animal survived and is receiving further veterinary care.
Crime scene just a kilometer apart
On Easter Sunday, the vet found poisoning again. The chihuahua of a 43-year-old owner died in the process. Since both crime scenes are located in the same place and are only about a kilometer apart as the crow flies, a connection is very likely.
Dog owners, particularly in the Manning area, are urged to exercise caution. For information, contact the Kirchbach Police Inspectorate in Styria: 059133-6124.
