Especially in Tyrol, drivers need a lot of patience on Saturdays. The end of the Christmas holidays in Austria and parts of Germany was already noticeable in the morning with miles of traffic jams and delays on typical travel routes, some of which lasted for hours.
Drivers in Tyrol needed the most patience on the B179, Fernpassstraße, towards Germany. “At around 11 a.m., about 1.5 hours were lost on the approximately 34-kilometre route between Nassereith and Reutte. For the Lermoos tunnel, traffic in the direction of Füssen was only processed in blocks from about 8.30 a.m.,” says the ARBÖ automobile club.
Also car avalanches in the Zillertal
In the Zillertal, too, the tin columns, especially from the valley, sometimes progressed only slowly or not at all. Between Stumm and Schlitters it took about 50 minutes longer at around 10:30 am. According to the ARBÖ, there were also blockades for the Brettfall tunnel from about 8:30 am.
With delay to the ski area
Drivers on the Arlberg highway (S16) towards Arlberg between Pettneu and St. Anton had to count on about five kilometers of traffic jams with up to 30 minutes extra travel time. According to ARBÖ, skiers traveling by vehicle in the direction of Kitzbühel at 10:30 took about 15 to 20 minutes longer on the Pass-Thurn-Straße (B161) from Aurach. Similar delays were also reported on Eibergstraße (B173) between Söll and Kufstein.
