New Year’s Eve in Milan – tourists report sexual violence

Date:

The Public Prosecution Service in Milan is currently investigating the sexual abuse of young female tourists on New Year’s Eve. There have been at least five cases and about thirty young men are believed to have been involved in the assaults.

In one case, an English woman celebrated the New Year with her boyfriend in Milan’s Cathedral Square. There the couple met a group from Belgium, four women and two boys, according to justice. The six were then surrounded by a group of about thirty young men.

A Belgian woman reported serious sexual harassment to the police in her country of origin. It was a ‘nightmare night’. She said the attack took place shortly after midnight, when a large crowd was in Cathedral Square.

Received psychological help
The Belgian woman and her girlfriend and friends were still in shock, it was said. According to her own statement, the student sought psychological help.

An Italian woman is also prepared to file a complaint. The victims also include a South American woman who has yet to be identified. Those affected are 20 and 21 years old.

The incident is reminiscent of New Year’s Eve 2022, when groups of young migrants attacked dozens of girls and women celebrating the New Year, including two German tourists, in Milan’s Cathedral Square. At the time, two young Egyptians were sentenced to prison.
