Tragedy involving two young boys on Epiphany in the Waldviertel: A 19-year-old man from Upper Austria died in a traffic accident in the district of Zwettl and a 20-year-old man from Lower Austria was seriously injured. On a freight road in Langschlag, the 20-year-old driver lost control of the wheel in a slight right turn around 10:30 p.m. The car with four occupants overturned and ended up under a dike in the woods.

At the scene of the accident, the large contingent of rescuers was presented with a terrible picture: the driver was trapped in the car, the 19-year-old was lifeless in the back seat. All help came too late for the young man from Altheim in the Braunau district, and the alarmed emergency doctor could only confirm death.
The 20-year-old from Groß Gerungs was freed from the vehicle by the fire brigade and the Red Cross and then flown to hospital with serious injuries by helicopter. The other two passengers – an 18-year-old also from the Braunau district and a 19-year-old – escaped with minor injuries.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing
“The operation was very demanding for everyone,” said Jakob Zwölfer, commander of the Liebenau fire brigade. This is also confirmed by Mario Eder, commander of the Langschlag fire brigade: “A few comrades then had to be taken care of by the crisis intervention team.” More than 80 men were on site. A driver’s blood test must determine whether alcohol was involved. The police investigation is ongoing.
