Even a few days after the fatal accident on New Year’s Eve, hardly anyone in St. Johann am Steinfelde returned to everyday life. The losses are too heavy: after an 18-year-old was killed by a bullet bomb that exploded too early, a boy of the same age succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, according to the police.
The reasons for such tragedies are diverse: illegally obtained fireworks, for which the necessary training is lacking, play just as much a role as cheerfulness and alcohol. Underestimating the explosive power is a very important reason. Because bullet bombs in particular explode with enormous force – comparable to an air gun (see image below).
