Large-scale operation in Pinzgau – two dead after an accident with an ambulance

A serious traffic accident with tragic consequences took place in Taxenbach in Salzburg on Saturday around 5.30 pm. A car collided head-on with an ambulance on the B311 near the Trattenbachtunnel. Two people died and two were injured, the Red Cross confirms.

A large contingent of emergency services with four emergency doctors and an emergency aid helicopter was on the scene and fought for the lives of two people: “Despite the rapid deployment of four emergency doctors and several paramedics at the scene of the accident, we were no longer able to save two lives Our thoughts are with the families and relatives of the victims of the accident,” explains district rescue commander Anton Voithofer. The exact course of the accident is still unclear: at the time of the accident, two Red Cross employees were on their way to the Schwarzach hospital with a patient when the tragic accident happened.

The driver and patient died
Both the driver of the car and the patient in the ambulance died from their serious injuries. The driver of the blue light vehicle was trapped by the impact: firefighters were able to take him out with heavy equipment. He was flown to the accident hospital in Salzburg with serious injuries.

A second paramedic was also injured and taken to hospital in Zell am See. The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. The public prosecutor’s office has already consulted accident expert Gerhard Kronreif. The next of kin are being cared for by crisis intervention teams.
