Japan presents the worst numbers of the covid

Date:

Japanese authorities report 407 deaths, bringing the number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to more than 60,000, with 10,000 in the past month

The alarm for the Covid-19 is intense on the Asian continent. Japan presents the worst numbers of the pandemic since it broke out in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019. The Japanese authorities this Sunday reported a total of 407 deaths – thirty of them in the capital Tokyo – from the corona virus in the past twenty-four hours. A scenario that has been repeated in the country in recent days and that according to experts, the situation could deteriorate considerably in the coming weeks.

With the territory plunged into the eighth wave of covid, the health ministry has recorded 190,000 new infections since yesterday, according to national public broadcaster NHK. But the biggest concern is the fatalities. And it is that Japan, which is above 400, is experiencing an unprecedented number of daily deaths. The record was reached last Thursday with 498. With these high numbers, the Japanese country has already surpassed 60,000 deaths since the start of the pandemic; and 10,000 of them in the last month alone.

According to the official local Kyodo news agency, men aged 80 are responsible for the majority of deaths, followed by those over 70 and over 90, according to health ministry data. As for the women, those over 80 and 90 stand out.

Despite the epidemiological situation it is in, Japan was one of the first countries to impose restrictions on travelers from China. And not only that. Last Thursday, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced another tightening of measures that came into effect today, coinciding with the reopening of borders in the Asian giant. “We have decided to strengthen the temporary measures, taking into account the results of the tests of those who arrived during the holiday season,” he claimed. For example, passengers must undergo a covid test before and after the trip. To this is added a request from the government to the airlines not to increase direct connections between China and Japan.
