House from the 1970s – the floor plan of the kindergarten is in the shape of a swastika

Date:

From a bird’s eye view, a kindergarten in Bregenz probably has the most unfavorable sight imaginable: the special design of the roof makes the view from above reminiscent of a swastika.

The wooden building dates from 1975 and has been a source of discussion ever since. It is not about how the children are taken care of in the Bregenz Achsiedlung, but how the house looks from above. Many are bothered by the fact that the building is reminiscent of Nazi symbols.

For a long time, the peculiar look from a bird’s eye view was not noticeable. But Google Maps and drones with cameras made the unfavorable roof construction visible. Nothing offensive can be seen from the ground. The building has a square plan and has four wings, each with a cloakroom at the front. This design makes it look like a swastika when viewed from above.

remodeling disproportionately high investment”
When the roof was due for renovation a few years ago, the city considered making it multi-colored to soften the peculiar bird’s eye view. However, due to “disproportionately high investments”, they have refrained from doing so, as Bernhard Fink, head of the building authority, has admitted in the media in the past.

Swastika buildings have also been found in California
There is also a similar example in the US, where the architect apparently did not take the bird’s eye view into account. The amphibious base of Coronado in the state of California also looks like a swastika from above, leading to much speculation – Israeli-American researcher Arvrahaum Segol theorized that the L-shaped buildings were deliberately arranged to honor former Nazi scientists, especially Wehrner von Braun and Arthur Rudolph, who helped launch the space program.
