Following the example of Salzburg: The Economic Association of Upper Austria calls for help for the economy in the fight against energy costs. Discussions have already taken place with representatives of the state of Upper Austria and the energy suppliers.
“The past few years have shown us how much problem-solving capacity and crisis resilience companies have. That is why they dare to master these problems,” says Doris Hummer. The president of the Upper Austrian Economic Association presented a survey among companies in Upper Austria with IMAS, which shows a mixed mood.
43% are confident in 2023, 32% are skeptical about the new year, 21% worried. Above all, the high reliability value is encouraging. “Companies are currently significantly more optimistic than the population,” says pollster Paul Eiselsberg. Still, Hummer is not put off by this: “We will have to prepare for a difficult year.” The increased energy costs in particular are hurting companies.
Hummer looks to Salzburg, where Salzburg AG is curbing the rise in electricity prices with up to 100 days of free electricity for business customers. Hummer is also demanding a similar action for Upper Austria, holding the state and energy suppliers accountable: “There are talks, calculations and hopefully implementation.”
