On a snowy road – risky overtaking maneuver: the car fell 25 meters

Winter conditions killed a driver in the Tyrolean Zillertal on Monday morning. Despite the snowy road, the 24-year-old wanted to overtake another vehicle. He slipped, went over the side of the road and fell 25 meters over the embankment.

The accident happened around 7:45 am. The 24-year-old resident was driving his car on the national road from Gerlos towards the Gerlospass when he wanted to overtake the other car.

“The young man came by skidded on the snowy road and went over the left edge of the road,” police said.

Fell 25 meters over a dike
The car eventually fell over the embankment, flipped over several times and got stuck in trees after about 25 meters. The driver escaped relatively lightly – according to police, he suffered only minor injuries.

Back on the road with a crane
However, there was serious damage to the car. The car was recovered by a towing company using a crane. The fire brigade was also present.
